Several works of Quincy University’s Robert Lee Mejer, distinguished professor of art, have been selected for international and national exhibitions and awards.

Mejer’s watercolor “Take PC #34” was selected and recently shown in the Raleigh, NC 311 Gallery All Abstract-2022, a physical visual art exhibit.  It has also been accepted into the 2022 Green Mountain National Watercolor Exhibition sponsored by Mad River Valley Arts. Selected artists were also invited to submit a painting for their “Small Works Show” to be held concurrent with the national exhibition. Mejer will be sending his small watercolor “Origins.” The opening exhibition reception/awards will be on June 19, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 pm and closes July 23, 2022. The exhibition will be at the Red Barn Galleries at the Lareau Farm, Waitsfield, VT.

Internationally recognized artist Mark E. Mehaffey selected Mejer’s watercolor “Variant-Checkmate” for exhibition in the Georgia Watercolor Society Juried National Exhibition 2022, Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF) Watkinsville, Georgia. The exhibit is from April 15-June 3, 2022. The painting received an Honorable Mention.

Juror Janet Doll selected Mejer’s watercolor “Somewhere-In-Between #2” for an Honorable Mention Award in the National 2022 Missouri Watercolor Society Member’s Exhibition held at the MOWS Gallery, St. Louis, MO.

Juror of Selection Ratindra Das selected Mejer’s watercolor “Take PC Open Book #4” for exhibition in the 41st Annual Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors to be held at the Center for Arts and Culture, Old Forge, NY.  The exhibition is from August 6-September 25, 2022 with opening reception/Awards ceremony on August 5, 2022.

Despina Tunberg, Director of Artavita Online Gallery, announced Robert Lee Mejer as a Finalist Award recipient in the International Artavita Online Art Contest.  He will be published in the 9th issue of World Wide Art Magazine with his watercolor “Variant: The Dance Around” being featured along with a short bio and artists statement.

Mejer was recently re-elected to the National Board of Watercolor USA Honor Society and continues to serve as Chair for the Members Watercolor NOW! Exhibition held in different venues. This fall it will be held at the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery, Bethany College, Lindsborg, KS.  He has served as a Board Member since 1998-present.

His watercolor “Take #14” has been selected for showcasing in Gallerium Art Prize International 2022 Online Group Exhibition via Biafarin platform Toronto, Canada. which opens May 20, 2022 until June 30, 2022. An exhibition catalogue will be published of the selected artwork and include a photo of the artist, a brief bio, and an artist’s statement.

William Butler, Executive Director of the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria has invited Robert Lee Mejer & Jason Mejer (1969-2014) to showcase their work in the gallery. “Inscapes-Celebrating a Life”-A father & son exhibition of mixed media painting, monotype assemblegraphs and watercolors revealing an undeniable visual connection.  The exhibition is scheduled for June 24-August 12, 2022 with a Gallery Talk/Reception on July 16, 2022 from 6:30-8:30 pm.

“I am a Geometric Abstract Intimist that operates out of a collage-space tradition,” said Mejer. “My watercolors emanate from small 6” x 4” paper collages. I express various emotional situations using a layering process in order to create visual drama-via opposites, that equates to the pulse of life!”

Robert Lee Major is Distinguished Professor of Art/Gray Gallery Curator (Founder 1968) at Quincy University, where he serves as Art Program Coordinator. He holds a M.F.A. from Miami University of Ohio, a B.S. in Art/Art Education from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana and signature charter membership in Watercolor U.S.A. Honor Society (WHS), International Society of Experimental Artists (ISEA/Master Fellowship), National Watercolor Society (NWS), and in Transparent W/C Society of America (TWSA, Master Status).

He has presented over 65 one-man exhibitions, and his works have been selected for exhibition in over 500-juried competitions. His watercolors were included in the ISEA/NWS Wales Exchange Exhibition 2013-2014, Shenzhen Watercolor Biennial China 2013-2014 and the Fabriano Aquerelle Exhibition 2016, 17,18, 19 Italy. His monotypes were also included in a 1978-80 Smithsonian Institution Traveling Show entitled “New American Monotypes. Mejer celebrated his 50-Year Retrospective at the Quincy Art Center in April 2018.  Mejer is listed in “Who’s Who in American Art” and “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.”
