QUINCY UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES NEW MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH
Quincy University has announced Brad Hoyt as its next head men’s basketball coach.
Hoyt comes to QU from John Wood Community College, where he has been the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Athletic Director since 2011. His JWCC record is 269-156, and he is the all-time wins leader for JWCC Men’s Basketball.
“Brad Hoyt’s accomplishments as a coach and teacher of the game are hard to overstate,” said Brian McGee, Ph.D., QU president. “His deep roots in Quincy and his commitment to student success on and off the court make him the right choice to serve as QU’s next head coach. We know Coach Hoyt can make a lasting difference here, and I look forward to the Hoyt era for QU men’s basketball.”
Coach Hoyt has coached basketball in the Tri-State region for more than twenty-five years. The majority of those years have been in the role of Head Coach or Associate Head Coach at John Wood Community College. He also served as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Culver-Stockton College for three years.
During his tenure at John Wood Community College, Hoyt amassed six Mid West Athletic Conference Championships and qualified for the national tournament four times. He has been recognized in multiple years as the Mid West Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, District 16 Coach of the Year, Region XXIV Coach of the Year and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year.
“Brad Hoyt has produced unprecedented success at JWCC, where his teams routinely produce at the national level,” said Josh Rabe ’01, M.S.E., QU athletic director. “His local ties are going to be paramount to the continued ascension of our Men’s Basketball Program. I look forward to working with him on a daily basis and to making his vision of Quincy University Men’s Basketball a reality.”
In addition to his coaching experience, Hoyt has worked in a variety of other roles in higher education in teaching and administration at both John Wood Community College and Culver-Stockton College. He is currently serving JWCC in the role of Dean of Student Affairs. Hoyt earned a degree in Business Administration and Political Science from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA.
“I am extremely grateful and excited to be able to lead Quincy University men’s basketball,” said Hoyt. “I would like to thank President Brian McGee and Athletic Director Josh Rabe for sharing their vision for the program and the athletic department. To be able to join the other high-level Hawk coaches and staff in moving Quincy University to an athletic destination is the goal – and I want Quincy University basketball to be integral in those next steps. I’m anxious to get with our guys so we can, together, make the next step.”
Coach Hoyt has had many volunteer roles with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), including service as a voting member of the Division II Men’s Soccer and Men’s Basketball Committees. He has also been a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association since 2004 and a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches since 1999.
Hoyt and his wife Nikki will celebrate their 26th wedding anniversary this summer and have three children.
