QU Kicks Off 2021-2022 QU Fund Drive
Quincy University launched its 2021-2022 QU Fund Drive with a $1.2 M goal on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at a reception held in the QU tent. Last year, the QU Fund Drive surpassed the $1M goal in support of campus improvements, technology enhancements and student scholarships. The QU Fund is comprised of unrestricted gifts to the university and temporarily restricted gifts to athletic and academic programs.
“With our recent increase in enrollment and receipt of a transformational gift, the momentum at Quincy University is palatable,” said Robert Wyatt, Ph.D. vice president for university advancement. “Now, more than ever, meeting the QU Fund goal is critical. We are confident in announcing an increased goal for the fund this year, which is so important to the day-to-day operation of the university. I believe our alumni and friends will rise to this challenge and allow QU to meet and surpass its goal as we capitalize on our recent successes and continue to enhance our students’ collegiate experience.”
The chairperson for this year’s campaign is Linda Moore ’81, Ph.D., city treasurer for the city of Quincy. A native of Quincy, Moore began her career in higher education as an admissions counselor and athletic recruiter after completing her bachelor’s at QU. She continued her career in college athletics, professional sports and Olympic projects including, the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. In October 1996, Moore joined ESPN Productions Inc. as part of the X Games franchise and led the financial, legal and business aspects of each organization until her retirement in January 2016.
While her work has led to many successes in the business world, her philanthropic efforts top the list of her greatest achievements. From raising $1 million for the V Foundation for Cancer Research through the ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic to chairing the fundraising committee to build Legends Stadium at Quincy University (QU), Moore believes in giving back.
“As an undergrad at Quincy College, many people invested in my future. From the President, Fr. Gabriel Brinkman, to my work supervisor, Pam Sherman, to professors and coaches – they all took an active role in guiding my development. Their encouragement set me up for an unforgettable career in higher education, then the Olympics, and eventually, at ESPN,” said Moore. “Now, it’s my turn to give back. By contributing to the Annual Fund, I can help prepare our current QU students for their life journey. I know my contributions make it possible for so many students to attend QU where they can experience the Franciscan values first-hand and build a solid foundation for success.”
At the Kick-Off, the university announced the inception of the elite 1860 Society, the university’s new giving society. The 1860 Society is a group of generous donors who contribute at least $1,000 annually to the university. Membership benefits vary by giving level, but members can expect a wide variety of benefits including welcome gifts, discounts, special invites to special events and exclusive updates.
