QU HONORS RETIRED VPAA AND PHILOSOPHY PROFESSOR TERESA REED

Quincy University honors retired Vice President for Academic Affairs and philosophy professor, Teresa Reed, PhD. Reed retired at the end of this academic year after a distinguished career as a faculty member and administrator.

“I congratulate Dr. Reed on a long and successful career serving multiple Catholic universities, including QU,” said Brian McGee, PhD, QU president. “Dr. Reed accomplished a great deal during her time in Quincy, and we are grateful for her leadership. I am particularly pleased to have worked with her to launch our Success by Design initiative at QU, which includes an individualized success plan for each student.”

“As an administrator, I try to make things better, and I think that systems should serve people rather than the other way around,” said Reed. “QU is a great place because of our people who respect and care about each other.”

Reed held leadership roles in the development and implementation of the following:

  • new undergraduate majors in forensic psychology, digital forensics, general studies, health services, public health, arts management, early childhood education, biochemistry and molecular biology, agribusiness, cybersecurity, business analytics, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering;
  • new undergraduate minors in advertising, general business, and Great Books
  • new undergraduate concentrations in actuarial science, data science, and pre-occupational therapy
  • accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s program
  • fully online degree programs
  • development of new graduate programs in Occupational Therapy Doctorate and Doctor of Physical Therapy, Health Care Administration concentration in MBA, and graduate certificates
  • institutional membership in Council for Undergraduate Research
  • implementation of 2017-22 and 2010-15 Strategic Plans
  • leadership of HLC Assessment Academy team 2010-14
  • adoption of Bonaventure Program e-portfolios and cross-curricular learning outcomes
  • faculty salary study 2018-23
  • implementation of faculty merit bonus
  • addition of Assistant VPAA position
  • establishment of the Office of Graduate Studies and the QUEST Center for experiential learning
  • academic restructuring of divisions into Schools
  • phased retirement program for faculty
  • co-author and editor of HLC Assurance Arguments 2019 and 2023
  • HLC peer reviewer and HLC Accreditation Liaison Officer 2021-23
  • review and improvement of academic policies and procedures

“This is a good time for me to retire and spend more time with my family,” said Reed. “I am confident that the improvements already set in motion and the creation of new initiatives will make QU thrive in the future.”

Reed was granted professor emeritus status and will continue to teach online philosophy classes at QU.
