
QU CHOIRS TO PERFORM VOCAL CELEBRATION AND GOSPEL MASS CONCERT AT TWO LOCATIONS
The Quincy University Music Department’s Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and Hawks of Harmony will present the Vocal Celebration & Gospel Mass Concert on May 4 and May 8.
Both evenings will encompass a variety of repertoire including festive sacred music, a spiritual, a tribute to Stephen Foster, Renaissance and Romantic styled motets, and a variety of vocal jazz ballads, upbeat, and sacred.
The second half of the program will feature the “Gospel Mass” by Robert Ray, a six- movement, sacred mass setting in the style of African American gospel and jazz.
The QU Choirs concert on May 4 will be at First Baptist Church, 739 N. 8th St., at 6:30 p.m. The concert on May 8 will be in the Connie Niemann Center for Music, 17th & Seminary Road, at 7:00 p.m.
QU Choirs are directed by Jonathan Stewart, DMA, associate professor of vocal music and director of choral activities.
