QU AFFILIATE PROFESSOR OF THEOLOGY RELEASES NEW BOOK
Quincy University affiliate professor of theology, Matthew W. Bates, PhD, has authored a new book that was released today by Brazos, an imprint of the Baker Publishing Group.
Bates’ book, Beyond the Salvation Wars: Why Both Protestants and Catholics Must Reimagine How We Are Saved, seeks to help the church move beyond Catholic and Protestant differences.
“Because I love the entire church–Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox–I’m excited about Beyond the Salvation Wars. The book doesn’t gloss over problems but presses us toward unity,” said Bates.
Using accessible writing and stories, Bates shows what Scripture teaches about baptism, election, regeneration, assurance, and justification. A companion to his previous book, Gospel Allegiance: What Faith in Jesus Misses for Salvation in Christ, this book will appeal to those who want to discover core truths about how people are saved–for their personal journey as well as for final Christian unity.
Bates is the author of Why the Gospel? which won a 2024 Christianity Today Book Award and was named the 2024 Resource of the Year by Outreach magazine. Bates cofounded and cohosts the Bible and theology podcast OnScript. He is also a professor of New Testament at Northern Seminary in Lisle, Illinois.
