Cindy LovellCindy Lovell, Ph.D., adjunct professor of English at Quincy University, with Jane Govoni, Ph.D., co-edited the textbook, Preparing the Way: Teaching ELs in the Pre-K – 12 Classroom, published by Kendall Hunt Publishing. The book includes an authored chapter by Lovell.

Preparing the Way: Teaching ELs in the Pre-K – 12 Classroom provides a reader-friendly experience for teacher preparation programs and school district workshops in five main areas:  ESOL federal and state legislation, cultural proficiency, diversity, and equity, fundamentals of applied linguistics, theories of second language learning and ESOL testing and evaluation.

Lovell received her master’s in education from Stetson University and her doctorate in education at the University of Iowa, specializing in ESOL and Gifted Education. She held tenured faculty positions at Volusia County Schools, Stetson University and Quincy University. She is the Director of Education at Epic Flight Academy in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where she works with international flight students. In addition, she teaches Applied Linguistics and Foundations of TESOL at the University of South Florida and provides consultation for the Florida Department of Education for teacher certification.

Govoni received her master’s in Spanish from Boston College and her doctorate in second language acquisition from the University of South Florida. Her background includes teaching Spanish at middle/high school and college levels and English as a Second Language (ESOL) for Educator Preparation Programs. She is currently the ESOL Coordinator in the College of Education at the University of South Florida.  She held a tenured faculty position at Saint Leo University and has written several books related to teaching English learners in the mainstream classroom.
