The successful candidate will actively participate in refining the curriculum, developing new courses, purchasing new lab equipment, hiring additional faculty and staff members, establishing departmental policies, mentoring new student organizations, etc.
• Small student-to-faculty ratio. Currently, every engineering class has fewer than 15 students, and we intend to maintain this small student-to-faculty ratio as the program continues to grow. For faculty, that translates to significantly less grading and significantly more of doing the things that really matter, like engaging with students
• Flexibility for research. As a liberal arts university, we value scholarly research and the role it plays in higher education while rejecting the “publish or perish” culture that has become so prevalent at many institutions. We emphasize quality over quantity, giving faculty the flexibility to pursue meaningful and interesting research at an appropriate pace
• Valid teaching performance metrics. We understand the well-documented problems associated with “traditional” measures commonly used in higher education as proxies for actual teaching performance. That is why we base our teaching assessment on valid metrics, such as classroom observations, rigor of instruction, holding students to high standards, consistent enforcement of academic integrity policies, etc.
• Ideal location. Situated on the bank of the Mississippi River, and within driving distance of St. Louis, Chicago, and Kansas City, Quincy offers an idyllic academic retreat with all the charm of the Midwest and all the benefits of a lively college town.
