Marty Bell is in his eleventh year (2017-18) as the athletic director at Quincy University.
Under Bell’s guidance the Quincy University athletic department has seen unprecedented growth and success. The Quincy athletic department has expanded by adding numerous graduate assistant positions and full-time assistant coaches to better help provide support for the Quincy student-athlete. The department will offer its 16th varsity sport in 2015-16 with the addition of women’s swimming.
Quincy athletics had their most successful overall season in the 2010-11 year finishing 3rd in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner’s Cup, their highest ever finish. Quincy had five of their seven GLVC core sports advance to the national tournament, also a school record.
Along with the success of the sports programs Bell has overseen the enhancement of athletic facilities including the move to Flinn Stadium for the Quincy football program in addition to two new video boards and new scoreboards in Pepsi Arena for the 2014-15 season. QU Stadium also has a new message board at the baseball field.
The men’s and women’s soccer teams now play on Jack Mackenzie Field at the newly-refurbished Legends Staduim on QU’s North Campus. Synthetic turf was placed during the summer of 2013 and additional upgrades are expected in the coming years with the Legends Stadium development project.
Bell has led the charge in making Quincy athletics more visible in the community with numerous community service events and the addition of several weekly coaches radio shows while increasing sponsorship for Quincy athletics. Bell has also worked closely with his coaching staff in building the programs roster sizes.
Bell previously served on men’s basketball coaching staffs at Drake (Iowa) University, Indiana (Pa.) University and Lock Haven (Pa.) University. He is a 1985 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in business administration. Bell earned his master’s degree from Penn State University while serving as a graduate assistant coach at IUP.
Bell and his wife, Julie, were married on June 25, 2005. Bell welcomes to the family her two children, Andrew and Amanda.
