Statement of Accreditation

Quincy University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (hlcommission.org), an institutional accreditor recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Approvals

Quincy University is approved by the Illinois State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board, 100 N. First Street, Springfield, Illinois 62777 (217-782-4321), to offer education programs for elementary and high school teacher licensure.

The University is approved by the State Approving Agency for educational assistance benefits to veterans and veterans’ dependents and by the Immigration and Naturalization Service of the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), has granted accreditation to the following programs in the Master’s of Science in Education in Counseling Program at Quincy University: Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.S.Ed.) and School Counseling (M.S.Ed.).

Illinois State Board of Education Accreditation

All Quincy University teacher licensure programs, including our school counselor licensure program, are fully accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education (IBHE). Quincy University has approved programs in the following areas leading to an educator license:

  • Early Childhood Education, Birth – 2nd grade
  • Elementary Education, 1st – 6th grade
  • Middle Grades Education, 5th – 8th grade in English – Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science
  • Secondary Education, 9th – 12th grade in Biological Sciences, English, Mathematics, and Social Science – History
  • Special Education, Kindergarten – 12th grade
  • School Counselor, PreK – Age 21

Additionally, we have licensure endorsements in Reading Teacher, Bilingual/English as a Second Language, and Special Education. We offer subsequent endorsements in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, Secondary, and Special Education.

Quincy University is recognized as a Gateways to Opportunity entitled institution. Gateways Credentials are awarded and recognized by the Illinois Department of Human Services Bureau of Child Care and Development.

Illinois Board of Higher Education Institutional Complaint System

Before contacting the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE), you must first make all attempts to resolve the matter directly with the institution.  After you have made all attempts to resolve your issue(s) with the institution, IBHE may intercede with the identified institution depending upon pertinent laws governing agency oversight.

You may register a new complaint or update an existing complaint. Providing personal information is voluntary. However, if you wish to remain anonymous, IBHE will not be able to contact you or address your formal complaint. Anonymous complaints will be reviewed, logged, and counted in IBHE reports about institutional complaints.
