A Welcome from the President

As president, I am honored to do my part to create and nurture QU’s caring and supportive environment for each student. At QU, all are welcome.

At Quincy University, students don’t succeed by accident. They succeed by design. The entire QU experience, from start to finish, is designed to serve the whole student and to prepare each student for lifelong success. Our small and largely residential learning environment provides the best possible setting for students to succeed and thrive.

The exceptional quality of this university is made possible by the amazing faculty and staff who are devoted to the success of each student. I encourage students and families to spend time with the people of QU, who live our Franciscan values of service, caring, and hospitality.

Founded by Franciscan friars in 1860, Quincy University is the only Catholic college or university serving Downstate Illinois. Our students come to QU from across the nation and around the world. At Quincy University, students of all faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds live and learn together. Our commitments to the liberal arts, to free speech, to academic freedom, and to answering difficult questions are all central to the Catholic and Franciscan Intellectual Traditions.

Quincy University has always been part of the fabric of Quincy, Illinois, a dynamic city of over 40,000. Quincy is an ideal community for our students, with several major employers and many opportunities for internships and for jobs before and after graduation. Our campus is centrally located, and students can easily walk to a large number of shops and restaurants.

Our athletic mascot is the hawk, an animal that in many cultures is a symbol of visionary leadership.
