The School of Humanities

The English program prepares students to read critically, write effectively, and communicate with clarity and purpose. Students explore literature, language, and writing across cultures and time periods while developing skills in analysis, creativity, and persuasive communication.

Opportunities & Outcomes

English majors develop strong skills in critical reading, analytical thinking, and effective written and oral communication. Students learn to interpret diverse literary texts, craft clear and persuasive arguments, conduct research, and apply language skills across cultural and historical contexts. These outcomes prepare graduates for a wide range of professional opportunities, including careers in education, writing and editing, publishing, journalism, public relations, marketing, law, nonprofit organizations, and business, as well as for graduate study in English, education, law, and related fields.
