QU Aviation Degree Program to Host Aviation Visit Day

Quincy University’s Aviation degree program will host Aviation Visit Day on Oct. 12, offering prospective students and members of the local community a look into a career in aviation.

The event begins with registration at noon in Francis Hall on the main campus. Attendees will participate in a dedicated Q&A session with Admissions staff, faculty and current students before heading to Quincy Regional Airport for a guided tour of the hangars, aircraft and fixed-base operator (FBO) facilities.

“Aviation Visit Day is the moment prospective students stop reading about a pilot career and start seeing themselves in the flight deck at Quincy University,” said Shelby Miller, instructor of aviation. “They visit campus and the FBO at Quincy Regional Airport and sit in the aircraft they would actually fly.”

Experiencing the campus, hangar and aircraft directly gives prospective students a feel for the program.

“In those seats, they see modern glass cockpits and GPS navigation, meet active Jet Access flight instructors and talk with current students in flight training,” Miller said. “It is how a student pictures the first lesson, the first solo and a future airline or corporate flying career starting here.”

Miller emphasized that QU’s partnership with Jet Access provides students with industry-ready training in modern avionics. The program pairs bachelor’s degree coursework with hands-on instruction under active professional pilots at an FBO.

“QU aviation graduates leave the flight line ready for the industry, not just the next rating,” Miller said. “When they transition from our flight program to the industry, they bring more than hours. They bring cockpit familiarity, professional habits and the decision-making hiring managers expect of a first officer, instructor or corporate pilot.”
