The Quincy University Music Program will host a Music Visit Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 12 at the Connie Niemann Center for Music, 17th and Seminary Road.
The free event is open to high school students and their families. Participants can tour campus, meet faculty and rehearse alongside current college musicians in the Quincy University bands and choir. Lunch is provided.
“This event is a great way for students to experience music at the college level, talk with current QU students, and see the many scholarship opportunities available,” said Christine Damm, DMA, dean of the School of Fine Arts and Communication. “They will rehearse side-by-side with college musicians, get a feel for our ensembles and directors, and see how their music journey can continue beyond high school.”
Attendees should plan to bring their instrument so that they can sit in on the band and jazz band rehearsal.
“High school seniors of any major who want to continue to play their instrument or sing in college may audition for a music scholarship at the end of the event,” said Damm. “Students should prepare an etude or solo that showcases their technical and artistic ability.
