Quincy University’s Gray Gallery, located in Brenner Library, and The Great River Watercolor Society present “Mississippi River Towns,” featuring the work of local watercolor artist Michael Escott. The exhibit opens Sept. 25 and runs through Oct. 16.
Escott will host a watercolor workshop, “Four Ways to Begin Abstract Painting,” on Saturday, Oct. 3 with a reception for his Gray Gallery show from 4 to 6 p.m.
Escott is a full-time watercolor artist based in Quincy, Ill. With nearly two decades of experience, Escott captures the dynamic spirit of landscapes, cityscapes and portraits inspired by his extensive travel and interactions with people all over the world. Grounded in realistic style, his work reflects his surroundings, drawing frequent inspiration from plein air sessions along the Mississippi riverbanks.
The watercolor workshop, co-sponsored by QU and The Great River Watercolor Society, will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 436 of QU’s Francis Hall. The cost of the workshop is $40 for GRWS members and $45 for non-members.
