Quincy University welcomed new students to campus Thursday August 20, for Move-In Day and the start of orientation, kicking off a week of campus traditions and community building.
A central highlight of the day is the Student Inaugural Ceremony, where university leaders formally welcome new students into the QU family. Led by a drumline and faculty in academic regalia, students process from the Health and Fitness Center to St. Francis Chapel as families cheer along the route. During the service, each student receives a tau cross, a hallmark Franciscan symbol, before gathering on Friars Field to form a giant “QU” for their first official class photo.
Throughout orientation, incoming students will explore the QU House System, academic resources, health services and service-learning opportunities. The schedule integrates team-building activities grounded in the university’s Franciscan values alongside Playfair, a nationally recognized, high-energy event featuring interactive icebreakers to help new students connect.
Students are welcomed back with a variety of facility enhancements completed over summer break. This includes creating a chapel in Friars Hall, classroom remodeling, and residence hall improvements.
Returning QU students will begin checking in on August 22, and classes start at 8 am on August 24. Official enrollment numbers will be released following the add/drop period the week of September 7.
