The Quincy University Music Department will host the QU Choral Festival on March 30 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. at the Connie Niemann Center for Music at QU’s North Campus, 17th & Seminary Road. Area high school and junior high choirs will join the QU Choirs for a day of rehearsal and performance.
The Choral Festival will end with a concert at 5 p.m. in the Connie Niemann Center for Music. This concert will feature select QU vocal and instrumental ensembles, area high school choirs, and the feature ensemble of the evening, the QU Choral Festival Chorus.
The festival repertoire includes “Benedictus” by Gabriel Faure, “Cupid” by Roger Quilter, an African American spiritual arrangement, “Go Down Moses,” and a 21st Century minimalist piece Tsilaminim by Romero Real.
Throughout the day, participating students will rehearse and refine the many technical and expressive aspects of these pieces with QU’s vocal musicians singing alongside student singers providing vocal and musical mentorship.
The Choral Festival will include a luncheon faculty recital featuring Dr. Jonathan Stewart from 12 – 1 p.m. in the North Campus Connie Niemann Center of Music, south side. Visitors are encouraged to come and bring their own lunch. Stewart will perform pieces from various historic periods in an informative, enjoyable solo vocal performance.
QU Choral Festival is directed and organized by Jonathan Stewart, DMA, Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Music.
