Quincy University’s Gray Gallery, located in Brenner Library, is hosting the work of Carolyn Owen Sommer, watercolor and mixed media artist from Springfield, Ill. The exhibit opens on November 15 and runs through December 12.

Sommer is a workshop leader for the Great River Watercolor Society. She will host a watercolor workshop on opening day of the exhibit, November 15 from 9-3 p.m., with a reception for her Gray Gallery show from 3:30 – 5 p.m.

“Take an adventurous approach and try my tools before you decide what your next art supply purchase might be,” said Sommer. “Enjoy a day of artistic growth based in solid design principles that can be energizing to your own watercolor practice.”

The exhibit features an array of Sommer’s artwork in mixed media, using water media, collage, printing, international and handmade papers, found antique papers, leaves, fabrics and found objects and clay.

Sommer teaches at Lincoln Land Community College, at the Gaslight Artist’s Colony in Marshall, Ill., and at Pere Marquette State Park.
