Music ensembles at Quincy University offer students the opportunity to perform, collaborate, and grow as musicians in a supportive and engaging environment. From bands and choirs to small ensembles and trios, all students of all majors are invited to participate. These ensembles foster creativity, community, and artistic expression while enriching campus life through performance.

Current Music Ensembles

Hawk Marching Band

The Marching Band performs at all home football games, including pregame and halftime performances as well as playing in the stands during games. Additionally, the band participates in the university’s homecoming and other local parades, recruitment activities, and other various venues. Marching Band is offered as a university course for credit and its members serve as musical ambassadors for Quincy University.

Hawk Express Jazz Band

The Hawk Express Jazz Band performs an exciting array of jazz music ranging from big band standards to new compositions. The ensemble performs four concerts each academic year and additionally tours to area high schools. Jazz Band is offered as a university course for credit and auditions take place at the beginning of the fall semester.

No Strings Attached Saxophone Quartet

This select group of student musicians performs an extensive selection of music. The quartet performs for many Quincy University events and tours regularly to area high schools. Participation in this group is by audition only at the beginning of the fall semester.

18th St. Trio

This select group is comprised of various instruments including clarinet, violin, bassoon, and others over the years. The trio performs a variety of pieces for many Quincy University events and tours regularly to area high schools. Participation in this group is by audition only at the beginning of the fall semester.

Reed Between the Lines Clarinet Quartet

This select group of student musicians performs an extensive selection of music. The quartet performs for many Quincy University events and tours regularly to area high schools. Participation in this group is by audition only at the beginning of the fall semester.

Concert Choir

The Concert Choir is the music department’s largest choral ensemble that sings in a variety of choral styles. The Concert Choir is a strong ensemble that takes part in at least 2 concerts per semester, including the annual QU Choral Festival, as well as other performances throughout the year including special university and community events, recruitment activities, choral tours, etc. This ensemble is offered as a university course credit and meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 – 4:20 pm.

Chamber Choir

The Chamber Choir is a select choral ensemble that sings in a variety of choral styles and languages, including Latin, German, French, Spanish, etc. The Chamber Choir takes part in at least 2 concerts per semester, including the annual QU Choral Festival and a variety of university and community special events, recruitment activities, choral tours, etc. Auditions for this group are held at the beginning of each fall semester. This ensemble is offered as a university course credit and meets on Monday and Wednesday from 3:30 – 4:20 pm.

Hawks of Harmony

Hawks of Harmony is the premiere acapella choral ensemble on campus. This group specializes in both vocal jazz and contemporary acapella, although occasionally branches out into other acapella genres. Hawks of Harmony takes part in at least 2 concerts per semester, including the annual QU Choral Festival and several university, community and professional special events, recruitment activities, choral tours, etc. Auditions for this group are held at the beginning of each fall semester. The ensemble is offered as a university course credit and meets on Fridays from 1:00 – 1:50 pm.

Other Music Groups

Garnered by student interest year to year, a number of additional ensembles are available for student musicians. In recent years, these groups have included a percussion ensemble, brass quintet, and a six-piece jazz combo. Interested students should contact a music faculty member about starting up a new ensemble.
