Computer labs in the Computer Science program have been upgraded to include a Software Engineering Lab.
All the essential software for various computer science courses is installed on the lab computers. These include Anaconda – an open-source distribution platform for data science and artificial intelligence using Python; Eclipse – an integrated development environment (IDE) widely used for programming; and Visual Studio Code – a powerful and versatile source code editor.
“With more students enrolling in computer science and cybersecurity majors, as well as electrical engineering students needing programming courses, the extra lab is necessary,” said Husam Ghazaleh, PhD, associate professor of computer science. “The built-in camera also lets us record classes when needed.”
In addition to the cybersecurity lab, this new computer lab provides QU students with more space to work on their projects and assignments, especially when one of the labs is occupied. It allows for more convenient class scheduling options for students.
The lab also has new flooring, paint, furniture, windows and technology including all new computers and monitors.
This computer lab enhancement is possible thanks to grants from the Tides Foundation (Google), the JW Gardner II Foundation and the Marion Gardner Jackson Charitable Trust, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee.
