Make Learning a Lifetime Experience
The Pursuit of Learning in Society (POLIS), sponsored by Quincy University, provides an opportunity to continue a lifelong journey of learning in a welcoming academic environment. Participants may choose from a selection of engaging, discussion-based courses taught by university professors, field experts, religious leaders, and researchers. Courses are designed to inspire curiosity, encourage thoughtful conversation, and explore a broad range of subjects—including history, music, art, literature, biology, political science, philosophy, theology, criminal justice, law, and business. No tests or grades are required.
Mission
To provide, at a modest cost, learning experiences for retired and semi-retired persons, regardless of previous educational background.
Calendar
POLIS offers courses during the Fall and Spring semesters that run concurrently with Quincy University degree courses. Most classes are held at Quincy University’s North Campus (North 18th Street and Seminary Road) from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with alternate locations and times for field classes. To receive a brochure describing all upcoming classes plus a registration form, email polis@quincy.edu with your name and address.
Registration
You can register by mail or in-person during a scheduled registration day in the Center for Science lobby located at the North Campus.
Fees
Membership for one semester is $15. Each two-hour class is $5. Individuals who have never taken a POLIS course are welcome to attend one class at no cost.
