Our Mission
Quincy University is a Franciscan, Catholic, and liberal arts institution emphasizing the development of servant-leaders.
Catholic expresses the university’s identity and mission rooted in the universal Church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Being Catholic means seeking truth through faith and reason, nurturing the dignity of every person, promoting justice, and building community through a life of service and prayer.
Franciscan refers to the spiritual and educational tradition inspired by St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, characterized by simplicity, joy, humility, reverence for creation, and compassion for all people. A Franciscan institution emphasizes peace, service, and the pursuit of truth through relationships of respect and love.
Liberal Arts is an educational approach that fosters critical thinking, communication, creativity, and moral discernment across a broad range of disciplines — including the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. It aims to form well-rounded individuals who can think deeply, reason ethically, and engage the world thoughtfully.

Our Franciscan Values Statement
Quincy University embodies the spirit of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, who encouraged each person to discover and to actualize one’s God-given potential for one’s good and the good of others and to point to the source and giver of all our gifts. We empower servant-leaders with the tools to be lifelong learners who pursue wisdom through academic excellence and experiences for the enhancement of their personal, intellectual, and professional development.

We encourage servant-leaders to embrace St. Francis’ exhortation, “Let us all love with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, with all our strength and fortitude, with all our intellect, and with all our powers of soul and body, with all our effort, with all our affection, with all our inmost being, with all our desires and wishes, the Lord God…” (St. Francis, Rule of 1221, 23:8)
