QU POLIS: Reading the Bible Again for the First Time VI: The Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts
May 4 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This class is two days: April 27 and May 4.
The class is taught by Dr. Leonard Biallas.
The gospel of Luke and the book of Acts are an intricately integrated two-volume work. Luke’s gospel begins and ends in Jerusalem; Acts begins in Jerusalem and ends in Rome. The movement in Luke is thus from Jerusalem to Rome. The first week we will look at themes which are typical of Luke’s gospel (including his interest in women, the poor, social justice, prayer, Holy Spirit, God’s plan for salvation, and Jesus as savior and model of divine compassion and forgiveness).
The second week we will study both the early Christian church (including Pentecost, communal life, interaction with foreigners, the first ecumenical council) and Paul (including his conversion, commission, journeys, and imprisonment).
