| FOR RELEASE UPON RECEIPT BUNZELL NAMED DAKTRONICS ALL-AMERICAN
(Quincy, Ill.) Quincy University pitcher Torie Bunzell has been named a 2009 Daktronics Softball All-American. Bunzell, a sophomore, was named honorable mention and becomes the first Lady Hawk player in school history to be named a NCAA Division II All-American. "This season was a little unexpected, especially after our start. But we came together as a team and just kept winning. This just sets our standards higher and we want to keep taking more steps along the way. " said Torie Bunzell. "The award is awesome. I don't really look for the awards, I just go out and try to win. However when you are picked for All-American it really puts a nice cap on the season." Bunzell, from Utica, Ill., was 23-13 this season with a 1.18 earned-run average and 380 strikeouts. She started 34 games, throwing 33 complete games and added one save. Bunzell held opponent's to a .144 batting average and finished with 10 shutouts on the season. She recorded three no-hitters and five one-hitters this season. Bunzell's 380 strikeouts broke her own school single season mark and also set a new Great Lakes Valley Conference single season record and rank 19th all-time in Division II history. She led the GLVC in wins and strikeouts this year and was second in earned-run average. Bunzell also ranked 3rd nationally in strikeouts, 18th in E.R.A. and 19th in wins. Bunzell was also named First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region this season. The Quincy University softball team finished 2009 with a 38-25 overall record and a 15-6 record in the GLVC, finishing in second place; tying for their highest finish ever in the GLVC. The Lady Hawks advanced to the GLVC Tournament this year for the first time since the 2007 season.
