| FOR RELEASE UPON RECEIPT QUINCY UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Quincy University is pleased to announce the appointment of Teresa I. Reed, Ph.D., to the position of vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Reed will serve as the University’s primary advocate for academic excellence in partnership with the faculty and will enhance the quality of undergraduate and graduate education through the promotion of excellence in teaching, the development of scholarship, and close student-faculty interactions. Dr. Reed will assume her responsibilities on July 1, 2010. “Dr. Reed brings impressive credentials, a collaborative yet decisive style, and a strong record of academic and administrative experience, particularly in Catholic higher education, that will help Quincy University advance to the next level of excellence,” said Robert A. Gervasi, Ph.D., president of Quincy University. Dr. Reed currently serves as dean of the school of arts and sciences at Marymount University, a Catholic comprehensive university in Arlington, Va. As dean, Dr. Reed made major contributions to the development of accepted standards for scholarly activity, participated in planning of a new science building, and revised the core curriculum. She previously served as associate dean for academic affairs and professor of philosophy at Rockhurst University. “I am happy to join the Quincy University community and return to the Midwest. My years of service in Catholic higher education led me to appreciate the strong mission, great tradition, and bright future of QU,” said Dr. Reed. “My focus is on improving student learning, not only in the classroom, but also through service and all aspects of student experience. In addition, I look forward to working alongside Dr. Gervasi and other campus leaders on strategic planning, supporting the faculty, and developing new programs at the University for the benefit of students and the region.” With more than 20 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Reed is an active scholar and member of the American Catholic Philosophical Association and has had several articles published. She holds bachelor’s degrees in philosophy and mathematics from Seattle University and a doctorate degree in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame. Quincy University’s vice president for academic affairs search was led by national search firm Academic Search. The search committee included University faculty, staff, and student leaders. Barbara Schleppenbach, Ph.D., will continue to serve as the interim vice president for academic affairs until Dr. Reed’s arrival.
