Cindy LovellCindy Lovell, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Education, recently presented "Controversial Literature and Critical Thinking: Why 'Banned' Books are Best" at the 7th Biennial M. Jean Greenlaw Children's Literature Conference at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. Lovell shared strategies for educators and parents to address sensitive language and content in a safe environment where critical thinking counters prejudice, bias and ignorance. She also emphasized the importance of vicarious experiences available to students through great literature which helps them understand a complex world.
