Judge Mark A. Schuering J.D. (Ret.) joined Quincy University in 1989 as an Adjunct Lecturer. Schuering has more than 30 years' experience in law. Judge Schuering has helped mentor QU students who are interested in the law. Schuering also assisted with the nationally recognized QU Mock Trial Team. He was instrumental in constructing a practice courtroom on campus to enhance preparation for Pre-Law students.
Judge Schuering served as trial court judge for 24+ years, a Circuit Judge of the Eighth Judicial Circuit, State of Illinois, elected in 1990 and retained for additional 6-year terms in 1996, 2002 and 2008, until his retirement from the bench in 2010. From 1986-1990 Judge Schuering was an Associate Circuit Judge of the Eighth Judicial Circuit in Illinois. He started his legal career practicing with the law firm of Goehl, Schuering and Adams, now Goehl, Schuering, Cassens and Bier.
Presently, Judge Schuering is engaged in a private Civil Mediation Practice, mediating civil lawsuits throughout Illinois and Missouri. Schuering is a certified mediator having completed courses at the National Judicial College.
Judge Schuering is a Past President of the Illinois Judges Association (2007-'08). He continues to be appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to teach at judicial seminars in the areas of Evidence Based Sentencing and Sentencing DUI and Sex Offenders. Schuering is a Trained Judicial Evaluator, a New Judge Mentor and a Trained Intervenor with the Lawyers Assistance Program in Illinois.
Schuering a QU Alum ('75) was a 4-year varsity tennis player at QU, advancing to the NAIA National Tournament by winning the Illinois District 20 playoffs all of his four years. He was inducted into the Quincy University Sports Hall of Fame.
Schuering is married to the former Kate Orlet Schuering (QU Alum, 1976) and the couple have five daughters, three who are QU Alums and two daughters and a son-in-law that are practicing lawyers.
