Dr. Failing earned a B.S. in Mathematics and B.A. in Philosophy & Religion (with minors in International Studies and Asian Studies) from nearby Truman State University in 2008. He completed his Ph.D. in Mathematics at Iowa State University in the Summer of 2013, in the area of abstract algebra. His current research interests include the use of automated reasoning tools in algebra research, the theoretical basis for those tools. He is also interested in the use of alternative pedagogical techniques such as Inquiry Based Learning, the Modified Moore Method, and classroom voting to improve student learning.
