Travis Yates, Associate Professor of Communication at Quincy University, received a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and Media Arts from Southern Illinois University, a Master’s degree in Education from Quincy University and a Master’s degree in American Media and Popular Culture from Arizona State University.

Prior to teaching Yates spent ten years in the television news industry as a producer, reporter, and videographer. He also served as QU’s Coordinator of Public Relations for three years. He is an Emmy-winning writer and moonlights as a multimedia artist, producing commercials and short films. His most recent film, Tombola, premiered at the Helios Film Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was also an official selection for the Los Angeles CineFest and Blow-Up Chicago International Arthouse Film Festival.

Professor Yates teaches a wide range of communication subjects, from film and television to public relations. He loves popular culture and enjoys researching the way it helps students learn about each other and other cultures. He embraces new technologies in his classes and is always on the hunt for innovative ways to deliver content to students.
