Daniel Tolbert

Daniel Tolbert, Ph.D. ‘68
tolbertThanks in part to a basketball scholarship from longtime Quincy coach John Ortwerth, Daniel Tolbert first set foot on the Quincy campus as a freshman in 1964 and quickly made a name for himself both on and off the court.  Tolbert still holds the program record for rebounds per game (14.3) and is sixth on the all-time rebounds list with 935.

Earning a bachelor of science in biological sciences in 1968, Tolbert continued his education by serving in the Army for two years before entering the doctoral program at Saint Louis University.  It was here where he received training to become a biomedical sciences educator and incipient scientist.  Following a fellowship with the University of Minnesota in 1975, Tolbert joined the Saint Louis University faculty in 1978 and has been actively involved in neuroscience research and teaching ever since.  He currently serves as a professor and director of the Center for Anatomical Sciences and Education.

As a former president of the Quincy University National Alumni Board, Tolbert attributes many of his life’s successes to the education and leadership qualities received from Quincy College friars, coaches, teachers, and friends.  He and wife Bernadette celebrate forty years of marriage in 2012.
