It may not seem like spring, but it's time for spring semester!
It may not seem like Spring outside, but we have prepared a new set of courses for POLIS for our Spring semester. We will again have our Registration Day at the POLIS Office on Jan. 15 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for those who wish to bring in their registrations. This opportunity has been growing in popularity, so we will continue it. Members may also enroll by mail by using the application forms in this newsletter.
Again this semester we have a mini-theme, this time about finance. Dr. Mitch Ellison from QU will have three sessions regarding the stock market; Art Greenbank will have a session on money and banking, and Jim Rapp will have three sessions on estate planning. For our friends of history we have two sessions regarding modern presidents by Justin Coffey; Dr. David Costigan will take us through the memorable year of 1968, and we will also have a three session history of Russia presented by yours truly.
In the science area, Dr. Al Pogge will conduct a session regarding floods, Dr. Coelho will discuss dragonflies, and Dave Barnard will tell us about bees. In theology, Ed Maniscalco will take us through a history of Catholicism. From literature, Dr. Mary Ann Klein will discuss enduring themes in literature, and Dr. Joe Messina will discuss two of Shakespeare.s comedies, .A Comedy of Errors. and .Twelfth Night,. and the inspirations for these plays.
As always, we welcome your suggestions for topics or for particular speakers. Please do not hesitate to make these suggestions known to us. We aim to make POLIS the definitive source of relative and informative topics, and we appreciate your suggestions.
We look forward to seeing you in class!
