Quincy University’s Franciscan Press came to Quincy University in 1990 from Chicago, where it had been known for many years as the Franciscan Herald Press. The Press has been both a ministry of the Sacred Heart Province of the Franciscans and a work of Quincy University since its move here. The Press has published many books of scholarly as well as the more popular side of the Franciscan heritage, from Assisi to Bonaventure to Solanus Casey, while at the same time publishing books like the Pastoral Companion to Canon Law, Wildcat Whistle and World Religions in the History of Salvation. Authors whose books have been published here include Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI), Peter Maurin, who was a coworker of Dorothy Day, George Tavard, a French Priest who has worked in the U.S., Cardinal Walter Kasper, Margaret Carney, OSF, current president of St. Bonaventure University and many others. It has also been the publisher of books by those who teach or have taught here, including: J. J. Lakers, OFM, Dr. Robert Manning, Dr. Leonard Biallas, and Sr. Dawn Nothwehr, OSF. There have also been many booklets for novenas and other prayers published through the Press. |
