Quincy Foundation for Quality Education Child-Family Mentor Program

The Quincy Foundation for Quality Education mentor program matches positive caring adult volunteers with students in a one-on-one supportive and attentive relationship. Mentors meet with their students approximately 30-45 minutes each week at the school.  Mentors work with students ranging from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. 

 

Adams County Teen Reach

This is an out of school time program which operates Monday through Friday and one Saturday a month, year round.  The program is designed to promote academic achievement and decrease negative risk among youth ages 10-16.

 

Blessed Sacrament

Blesses Sacrament provides for the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well beng and formation of its students.  A highly motivated, dedicated staff shares its growth in Christ with the students in a parish family setting.  A family-based faith approach encourages strong staff/parents/student involvement so students might develop to their fullest potential.

Volunteers report to the food pantry manager and provide assistance in a variety of tasks.  These tasks include: stocking the food pantry, preparing items for delivery and miscellaneous cleaning.

This organization provides food, clothing, and other personal items to individuals in need.  Volunteers help stock goods and keep the building clean and orderly. 

 

United Way of Adams County

United Way helps meet local and human-care needs by raising funds to support a network of programs and services.  United Way also operates the Help Line where people can call in and be referred to the agency that best satisfies their needs. 

 

American Red Cross – Adams County Chapter

The over 300 volunteers are really what make the Adams Country Red Cross work.  You can find Red Cross volunteers everywhere, working at blood drives, teaching CPR classes, or working in the local hospitals and nursing homes.  Wouldn’t you like to join this winning team?  Come in and visit the people at your Red Cross.

 

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is a religious and social service organization.  It provides food, shelter, counseling, and financial assistance to those in need.  It ministers to both the spiritual and physical needs of people of all races and creeds.

 

Habitat for Humanity

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds and rehabilitates homes in partnership with homeowner families, with the goal of eliminating poverty housing.  Volunteers assist with raising money, working on the construction sites, in the offices, and in the community.

Respect Life Organizations

 

Birthright of Quincy

This agency provides confidential counseling, free pregnancy testing, free maternity clothes and baby items to anyone needing help.  In addition, financial help is available through community donations.   Student volunteers assist Birthright volunteers in conducting free pregnancy tests, listening to girls concerns, and distributing infant food, clothing, and diapers.

 

Madonna House

This is a shelter for women over the age of 18 who are pregnant and in an economic or emotional crisis.  Volunteers help with a variety of tasks including stocking the food pantry, sorting through donated clothes, and cleaning.  There are also opportunities for babysitting in order to give the mothers a break.  Volunteers are also needed throughout the year to help with mailings and fundraiser dinners. 

 

Care Net Pregnancy Services of Quincy

Care Net is a Christian-based support group.  They provide free pregnancy tests, counseling and practical support related to referrals to community agencies, maternity and baby clothes and supplies, adoption information, childbirth classes, referrals to prenatal and parenting classes, and abstinence education.  Volunteers are needed for peer counseling, as clothing room aides and to help with mailings.

Community and Family Development

 

Quanada/Sapsis

Quanada’s goas is to eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault in individual lives and society as a whole.  Quanada/Sapsis volunteers serve in a variety of roles in the agency.  Volunteers help with fundraising, prevention and education, clerical duties, and with the monthly newsletter.  There are also many special projects that require volunteers throughout the year. 

 

YMCA

The Quincy area YMCA provides health and recreational activities for children of all ages.  They also administer the Big Brother/Big Sister program to help children from ages 6 to 16 grow socially.  Please contact the YMCA if you are interested in being a Big Brother/Big Sister.

 

YWCA

The YWCA advances the cause of women and girls, adapting action program and services to meet individual needs.  The YWCA also has a daycare center, servicing children six weeks through six years.  Volunteers can serve as mentors to the children by visiting with them and participating in various activities.  The YWCA also has miscellaneous projects throughout the year that call for volunteers. 

 

Chaddock

Through residential services, Chaddock provides a total living-learning environment for severely troubled boys and girls.  Volunteers assist with this by acting as mentors and role models to the children.

Senior Citizens and Residences

 

Adams County Council for Senior Citizens

Adams County Council for Senior Citizens’ mission is to provide services, planning and coordination of services and activities, and to support and represent the senior citizens of Adams County, Illinois.  Volunteers needed as: store clerk, dance coordinators, activity/arts coordinator, advocacy, program coordinators, and craft instructors. 

 

RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program)

RSVP is a program for people over 55 years of age who would like to volunteer their time, experience, knowledge, and interest with others in the community.  Among the services volunteers provide are delivering meals to shutins, counseling, grocery shopping, and transporting people who are unable to drive to an appointment with a doctor or hospital.  Volunteers also assist in clerical work and mailings. 

 

St. Vincent’s Nursing Home

Volunteers at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home provide key role in making it a special place.  Volunteers help with the daily activities and games coordinated by the home.  Volunteers also provide friendly visits and bond with the elderly who reside there.

 

Illinois Veteran’s Home

              Volunteers at the IVH provide service through a variety of activities.  Volunteers are needed to assist at the monthly birthday parties, ceramics workshops, and bingo.  Volunteers also put a smile on the residents’ faces by providing visits and escorting residents around the IVH campus. 

 

Sunset Home

The spirit of compassion at Sunset is obvious in the over 6,000 hours of annual volunteer service given.  Volunteers are found daily in Sunset filling in a variety of roles: coffee shop, ice cream shoppe, bus rides,, ceramics class, lunch outings, bible study, musical groups, dance trips, and delivering popcorn. 

 

Good Samaritan Home

Volunteers at Good Samaritan Home assist with the activities such as Bingo, delivering popcorn, and other games.  Along with helping coordinate the activities, volunteers also serve by providing friendly visits and companionship to the residents.  If you would like to find out more and are interested in volunteering, please call the Activities Department at Good Samaritan Home.
