Educational Meetings and Plant Tours:
Educational meetings and plant tours are a highlight of the events that the Quincy IMA chapter presents. Following is a list of the Educational Meetings and Plant Tours for the 2007-2008 IMA year. The IMA is especially proud of the new speaker series, Someone Else’s Business. This speaker series invites Quincy University alumni in to the beginning of a weekly meeting to discuss their careers with chapter members. This event has been well received by the students as an opportunity to learn about the business world and network with QU alumni. The alumni enjoyed an informal conversation with members.
- Knapheide Mfg., Quincy, Illinois
Objective: To learn about the daily operations of an industry leader in the manufacture of truck bodies.
Description: On March 28 and 29, 2007, members of the Quincy University IMA chapter toured Knapheide Manufacturing Company located in Quincy, Illinois. Knapheide is one of the country's largest manufacturers of both standard and special-order truck bodies. Many of the truck bodies used by veterinarians and utility companies are designed and manufactured by Knapheide Mfg. Company. Bill Grieving, Plant Operations Manager conducted the tour by showing a brief video on the history of Knapheide Mfg. Co, followed by a plant tour. Students were able to observe assembly line production, as well as special order production. Prior to and following the tour of the plant, students were able to ask Mr. Grieving specific questions relating to the Knapheide Mfg. Co.

- Mercantile Exchange
Activity: Tour of Chicago Mercantile Exchange
Objective: To learn about the operations of a financial market, specifically, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange
Description: On April 10th, 2007 Quincy University students and faculty were hosted by Quincy University alumnus, Jack Walsh, at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Students had the opportunity to listen to Jerry Roberts and Diane Amacker of the Mercantile Exchange discuss how the exchange operates. Mr. Walsh later hosted a reception for the students and faculty at Harry Caray's in downtown Chicago. They had the opportunity to meet other business professionals and get a look into different aspects of the business world. This was an enjoyable evening which provided a great networking capability with many of these people.

Activity: Presentation at Logical Information Machines (LIM)
Objective: To learn about the operations of a data mining company.
Description: On April 10th, 2007 Quincy University students and faculty had the opportunity to listen to a presentation given by Bill Cassato, Vice President Sales of Logical Information Machines (LIM). LIM is a firm that specializes in accumulating and supplying research data to other businesses. Students had the opportunity to listen to a presentation and watch a demonstration of the data mining capabilities offered by the firm.

- Bell, Boyd. And Lloyd
Activity: Presentation at Bell Boyd and Lloyd, LLP
Objective: To learn about the operations of an international law firm and listen to a lawyer specializing in antitrust issues.
Description: On April 11th, 2007, a Quincy University Alum and current Board of Trustees member Michael Sennett, invited IMA students and faculty to his law office, Bell, Boyd and Lloyd, LLP. Mr. Sennett explained his position as partner and chair of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation Department at Bell, Boyd & Lloyd, LLC, in Chicago and as an adjunct professor of law at Loyola University. Students were able to discuss their own education at Quincy University and their career goals. Also discussed by foreign practice attorney Anne Pansard, was the importance of international opportunities.

Activity: Tour of Source4
Objective: To learn about the operations of a printing business and talk with business professionals.
Description: On April 9, the students and faculty were hosted by alumni Bill O'Donnell and Patrick Fitzgerald at Source4, a printing company owned and operated by Mr. Fitzgerald. Students were welcomed with a lunch and had the opportunity to listen to employees talk about their own personal work experiences. The students also enjoyed a tour of the printing facilities and learned about the company's other business ventures including their disaster recovery facilities, where businesses could continue business operations if they were faced with a major disaster at their regular place of business, and their involvement in Spun.com, an on-line music and video swapping service. Trip participants later enjoyed dinner with Source4 employees.

- Illinois CPA Society Agri-Business Committee Meeting
Activity: Illinois CPA Society Agri-Business Committee Meeting
Objective: To have the opportunity to network with and learn from statewide members of the Illinois CPA Society.
Description: On September 21, 2007 members of the Quincy University IMA had the opportunity to meet and converse with various members of the Illinois CPA society Agri-business committee. The students enjoyed a luncheon with the members and had the chance to ask them about their professions. Following the luncheon, Reg Ankrom, in charge of Project Development of the Western Illinois Ethanol Project at Griggsville gave a highly informational speech on the future of ethanol. This was a very valuable networking experience for the students that attended.

- Quincy IMA meeting - September - Tim O'Connor
Activity: Quincy IMA Chapter meeting
Objective: To represent the Quincy University student chapter at the meeting.
Description: On Tuesday September 18, 2007. Dr. Vicky Eidson and Sara Harman attended the Quincy IMA Chapter meeting held at Tony's restaurant in Quincy, IL. The meeting was the kick off for the local chapter. Mercantile Bank was the sponsor for the meeting. At the meeting the scholarship winners were recognized for their achievements. The guest speaker of the meeting was Tim O'Connor from O'Connor Wealth Management who discussed the volatility of investments in the economy in his speech, Examining Market Expectations.
- Federal Reserve Bank
Activity: Federal Reserve Bank
Objective: To network with other accountants in the area and gain knowledge of the Federal Reserve and possible future careers with the Federal Reserve.
Description: The Quincy Student Chapter of IMA was fortunate to have the opportunity to travel to the St. Louis Federal Reserve Branch on September 25, 2007. The trip served two purposes for our group; we were able to take a tour of the Federal Reserve Branch and network with several employees, and we also received training in the Paycheck Partnership program. In our tour we were able to see first hand where they process the incoming funds and checks from banks all over our district. We also learned about the career opportunities offered by the Federal Reserve in accounting as well as economics. Several employees volunteered their time to give us information about what their jobs in accounting are like. They also answered student questions pertaining to their field. Through this trip we were able to network with several influential accountants in the St. Louis area as well gain a great deal of insight into possible accounting careers with the Federal Reserve.
- Quincy IMA Meeting - October - Ron Leftwich
Activity: Quincy IMA Chapter meeting
Objective: To represent the Quincy University student chapter at the meeting.
Description: On Tuesday October 16, 2007 Vicky Eidson and Doug Heneghan attended the Quincy IMA Chapter meeting held at Spring Lake Country Club in Quincy, IL. Quincy Medical Group was the spotlight company for the meeting. The guest speaker of the meeting was Ron Leftwich, retired Treasurer of Shell Oil Company. His topic was Cash Planning and Forecasting at Shell Oil

- Caterpillar, Inc.
Activity: Caterpillar tour
Objective: To learn about manufacturing operations at Caterpillar, Inc. and network with professionals within the organization.
Description: On November 16, 2007, nine Quincy University IMA and SIFE students and two faculty members traveled to Peoria, Illinois to tour a Caterpillar manufacturing facility. The group members were treated with lunch and discussed career opportunities at Caterpillar with two members of the accounting staff as well as a human resource representative. At the manufacturing facility, the students and faculty members were able to see how Caterpillars largest earthmoving equipment was manufactured. At the conclusion of the tour, group members were provided with the opportunity to sit inside a Caterpillar D10.

- Somebody Else's Business: Steve and Scott Koester
Activity: Someone Else's Business
Objective: To learn about the businesses of Quincy University alumni
Description: On Monday, January 22, 2008 the Quincy University student chapter of IMA kicked off their new speaker series titled "Someone Else's Business." Steve and Scott Koester were the guest speakers for the first series. The goal of this is to give students a chance to network with local professionals, find out about the current business that they are in, and learn how to apply what is being taught at QU to the business world. The Koesters provided insight into two different opportunities for accounting majors. They stressed the importance of learning from each job opportunity you have and taking advantage of any networking opportunities.

- Somebody Else's Business: Michele Huseman
Activity: Someone Else's Business
Objective: To learn about the businesses of Quincy University alumni
Description: On Monday, January 28, 2007, at the IMA meeting we had our third guest appearance for our new speaker series. Michele Huseman from Archer Daniels Midland Company came to the meeting to speak. She informed us on how she graduated QU, had an internship at ADM, and from that got her job. She gave students a great insight on what to expect and even how to get there.

Public Relations Information:
- Alumni Bulletin-Activities of the student chapter of IMA were covered in the Quincy Alumni Bulletin.
- Flyers –Flyers announcing were posted around campus prior to meetings and guest speakers.
- University Calendar – IMA meetings and events are posted on the campus calendar that is provided to campus community members.
- Moodle- An IMA account was created on Moodle (similar to Blackboard) where all IMA members signed in as “students.” Club activities were posted on there to inform members of upcoming events.
- Brochures-A brochure was developed which described activities of the IMA chapter. The brochure was handed out to potential members at the QU Adventure Race, as well as prospective students through the admissions office.
- IMA Banner purchased-An IMA banner was put on display on table fronts during the Organizational Fair, Club Expo, and sand volleyball tournament.
- Organizational Fair and Campus Visit Days -Members staff a table at the QU Organizational Fair as well as at campus visit days. Members talk with prospective students (Campus Visit Days) or current student (Organizational Fair) about the activities of the IMA. The brochures were passed out to prospective students and club activities were also discussed.
- Local Quincy Newspaper- When possible, the IMA promotes their activities through the local newspaper. Articles are submitted to the PR office at Quincy University and PR edits and submits them as they see fit.
- Quincy Area Chapter Newsletter – The Quincy Area IMA Chapter Newsletter includes a section for Quincy University IMA student Chapter news.
- Homecoming car decorating- The IMA, along with the SIFE organization, proposed the idea for homecoming floats. The University agreed to allow the decoration of vehicles. IMA and SIFE members promoted the event to other campus organizations and decorated a van promoting the IMA.
- Adventure Race presentation-Following the QU Adventure Race the club president presented a power point presentation to race participants.
Other Activities
The Quincy University participates in other activities which mainly serve to raise funds, recognize member achievements, have fun, or promote the IMA Student Chapter. Following is a list of these "other activities."
- Fundraising and IMA Promotion
- selling Can Koozies
Activity: Selling can koozies as a fundraiser.
Objective: To see supply and demand in action, develop sales skills and raise funds for the QU IMASC.
Description: On September 22, Quincy University held its homecoming football game. Since a large number of alumni were in town for homecoming, pre-game tailgating was extremely popular. IMA members made the most of the event by taking the opportunity to sell koozies while meeting alumni and fellow students. While walking around selling the koozies, it seemed as though everyone the students talked to bought one. The IMASC was able to raise approximately $280 and sold almost 140 Koozies.

Objective: to promote school spirit before our homecoming game
Description: Quincy University had a pleasing turnout of fans ready to tailgate before our school's homecoming game versus Walsh. IMA's student chapter capitalized on this opportunity by selling creatively designed t-shirts sporting the slogan "Lets your Spirits Fly" on the front and back, and a hawk (Quincy's mascot) pictured on the front.

Activity: Christmas Party
Objective: Celebrate the end of the semester in a social event
Description: On December 3rd 2007, the Quincy University Student Chapter gathered together for their last meeting of the school year. Instead of a normal meeting, we celebrated the upcoming holiday season. The students gathered to watch a holiday classic movie, Elf. This was intended to help the students relax and have fun before the stress of final exams. Snacks were brought and shared between everyone while laughing to the hilarious comedy.

- Senior Appreciation
Activity: Senior Appreciation Night
Objective: To show appreciation to the seniors for their work and congratulate them on their accomplishments.
Description: Senior appreciation night was held in the Student Union on April 25, 2007. Members were treated to pizza and soda and enjoyed a evening of socialization.

- Gray Hunter Stenn Accounting Award
Activity: Gray Hunter Stenn Accounting Award
Objective: To recognize the accomplishments of a senior IMA member for academic excellence and contributions to the IMA.
Description: The 2007 Gray Hunter Stenn Accounting Award was awarded to Brandon Gervais. Brandon was not only an outstanding student, but also served the Quincy University IMA chapter as co-president. Brandon attended numerous activities and his leadership will be missed. Below Brandon (in back of the IMA banner) is shown representing the IMA at a high-school visit day.
