ALPHA OMICRON PI
Epsilon Sigma Chapter
Quincy University
Alpha Omicron Pi is an international women's fraternity promoting friendship for a lifetime, inspiring academic excellence and lifelong learning, and developing leadership skills through service to the fraternity and community.
Since 1897, over 126,000 women have found fun and friendship in the sisterhood of AOII. Alpha Omicron Pi has chartered 178 collegiate chapters, and over 320 alumnae chapters located throughout the United States and Canada. Our members have a place to call home, a place to find a friend, and a place to be themselves. We also support our members through programming and leadership development. Our desire is to help our members become the best they can be - personally, professionally and philanthropically.
Academics
AOII encourages all members to excel academically and has many programs designed to assist women in achieving their academic goals. Expectations are high but the support provided by scholarship programs, academic development officer resources, and fellow members makes success attainable.
We encourage all members to maintain at least a 2.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale through study hours and help from sisters. We also pride ourselves in our “strive for pi.” As we “strive for pi,” the chapter, as well as individually, attempts to have a 3.14 (∏) cumulative every semester. We are very proud to say that as a chapter we have achieved “pi” and have currently the highest GPA of all Greek Organizations.
Philanthropy
One of the founding principles of Alpha Omicron Pi is to be of service to others.
Alpha Omicron Pi is dedicated to Arthritis Research.
Since 1967, when we adopted the Arthritis Foundation, the American Juvenile Arthritis Organization, and Canadian Arthritis Society as our international philanthropy, over one million dollars has been raised by AOIIs to help researchers find a cure for this crippling disease that so often targets women as its victims.
As a chapter, we organize and sponsor three main found-raisers for Arthritis Research. We have an Annual Rock-A-Thon where we rock in rocking chairs for 24 hours to promote awareness of Arthritis. We also hold an Annual Mr. GQ Pageant, which is a contest for the men on campus to help raise money for a good cause, Arthritis. Both the Rock-a-Thon and Mr. GQ take place during the fall semester. The final and most important event that we put on is our Annual Strike-Out Arthritis Tournament, which is a team softball tournament that takes place during the spring semester. All the proceeds go to our international philanthropy for arthritis research.
We also participate in the local arthritis fund-raisers, like the Arthritis Telethon, the Nora Baldner Golf Tournament, the Jingle Bell Run and more. As a sorority, we also donate time to countless local community projects to benefit children, the elderly, the less fortunate, and others.
