Athletic Training
Quincy University Athletic Training Program
The goal of the athletic training department at Quincy University is to provide high quality comprehensive sports medicine care for all sports related injuries and illnesses. The athletic training department is comprised of a team physician and two staff certified athletic trainers. To meet the needs of the student-athlete, the athletic training program is complemented by local hospital based physicians in all specialties around the tri-state area.
Quincy University maintains a quality athletic training room to meet the student-athletes' needs. The athletic training room is located in the lower level of the Health and Fitness Center next to the Pepsi Arena. The athletic training room contains equipment specifically for the treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. All injury evaluations, treatment and rehabilitation are under supervision of a certified athletic trainer.
Quincy University Certified / Licensed Athletic Trainer
What is a Certified Athletic Trainer? Certified athletic trainers are the critical link between the sport program and the medical community, and are certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association — Board of Certification. The certified athletic trainer is also state regulated by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations as a Licensed Athletic Trainer. Although certified athletic trainers work under the direction of a team physician, they provide a much broader range of direct services to the sport participant on a daily basis. Certified athletic trainers have a strong background in human anatomy and physiology, kinesiology/biomechanics, pharmacology, pathology of injury or illness, psychology, health and nutrition, exercise physiology, organization and administration, first aid, emergency care, injury prevention, injury and illness assessment, therapeutic rehabilitation and the use of therapeutic modalities. Because of this broad background, the certified athletic trainer serves as the facilitator and liaison between the physician and athlete, and physician and coach.
The Certified athletic trainer's primary duties and responsibilities at Quincy University are:
- Risk management and Injury prevention
