University Vision
The vision of Quincy University, as a Catholic, coeducational, liberal arts university, is to educate women and men who will make a difference in the world. In order to achieve this vision, we hope to educate students toward a broad world view; to help students understand and appreciate the interdependence and interconnectedness of all of life; to cultivate the ability to think critically; to free them from narrow, intolerant, restricted thinking; to make sound ethical and moral decisions; to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ as taught by the Roman Catholic Church; to actively work for justice and peace and the integrity of creation; to promote ecumenism and interfaith dialogue; to be inspired by the lives of Francis and Clare; to respect and value every person; and to cultivate a relationship with God.
Some, but not all, of the University's specific aims are:
-
To promote a synthesis of study which offers a lucid picture of the human situation - one that gives authentic understanding, aim, and worth to all fields of knowledge through Judeo-Christian moral and human values.
-
To challenge students to achieve their highest potential through intellectually stimulating course offerings and projects, and to furnish the academic support needed to enable students to meet this challenge.
-
To develop within the academic community an awareness of issues affecting human society and the ability to act wisely and responsibly after competent analysis and judgement.
-
To prepare students for careers, graduate studies, and professional schools.
-
To encourage the faculty to develop their knowledge through research and scholarship, and to share this knowledge with the wider community of scholars.
-
To implement by word and deed a commitment to social justice and a belief in the human dignity of all.
-
To foster the personal, spiritual, and ethical, as well as the intellectual, development of all members of the Quincy University community.
-
To nurture the ideals of our democracy by engendering respect for others as well as for ourselves, while promoting freedom with responsibility.
-
To respond to intellectual, cultural, and aesthetic needs of the community by providing programs and resources for the people of Quincy and the surrounding area.
